well
it is one week since I left USA.
yesterday, Sunday, I went on a day trip to Segovia, which was wonderful
it was about one hour away by bus.
we had a tour of the city, we visited the palace of Isabella (of Ferdinand and Isabella fame)
and it was really lovely. Then I had a great lunch of the traditional food of Segovia, roasted suckling pig with white asparagus. It was good.
I go to school each day from nine to two.
I have one class in cultura y civilizacion and 3 horas in espanol, gramatica and conversacion.
I understand fairly well, my speaking is coming along.
I live with a single woman about my age out in the neighborhoods on an Avenida se llama
Avenida Salamanca. It is a long walk to the cento, but worth the exercise.
It does not get dark until ten or ten thirty at night. Right now it is ten oclock and I am in the internet cafe and then I will walk home.
The program I am in has about 200 students from URI and UMASS combined. Most are younger than me, but I enjoy the company of the few graduate students and spanish teachers who are also on the trip. I went to an outdoors jazz concert last night in the plaza in front of the old cathedral. Allot of concerts here.
Weather is great very dry, allot of warm light and cool mornings.
So far, I am very well.
please take a minute and write to me. I miss all of you very much.

Hi Lauren,
Great to hear from you! I'm glad you are enjoying it, and learning your way around. Did you take those photos on your blog? They look great! Things here are hazy, hot & humid! June said she saw a "for sale" sign on your house, so I guess you must have resolved things there. Mine is still waiting for it's new owner. Brenna is wacky, and Gary is great. We had a nice weekend over the 4th, visiting my family in Charlestown, and went to a party at Marina Bay, Boston on Saturday. Work is slow, but I am liking it. I started doing laps in my pool and a new health routine, so I feel pretty good. Have you found a yoga class over there? Any cute guys???
HI, I am so happy you are doing so well and enjoying yourself. Spain is a wonderful country-we have inherited so much culture from the spanish-at least I thought so. We are leaving PC tonight-hard to leave-the weather is gorgeous. i made arrangements for us to go to the Sundance Food & Wine Festival on Labor Day Saturday; All is well with A-he is working hard. Really miss you and love you very much!!! Big mama

Do they just have concerts in the square for free?? Can't wait to hear about the food-I loved spanish food. Are the people friendly to you as an American?? How many people in your class?? Just need to know details. Love you and really miss you!! love, big mama
Hi Lauren -
It sounds so beautiful there - amazing that it stays light so late! I hope you are enjoying the Spanish immersion experience and will be happy to practic with you when you return. I understand Spanish very well but I'm not very good at speaking it!
Hasta Luego,
Karen
Can't believe it has been over a week since I dropped you off. Sorry for not communicating sooner, but I just don't know where the days go.
I am working on my windows boxes, but I just don't think they will be ready for the end of the month judging committee. I have been feeding them like mad but they haven't even started to cascade. Maybe I won't even enter this year.
Everyone is fine. John is headed for Norway and is realy happy.
Sounds like you are having a wonderful experience. Enjoy your time over there. This exactly what the doctor ordered.
xxoo
